Not even this transit nerd realized that SEPTA intends to close the 11th Street L Station for a year to make it handicapped accessible.

SEPTA announced the station which serves 9,400 people per day will be closed starting on September 5th with work running through August of 2027. According to SEPTA, closing the entire station will save 10 months of construction time and $3 million.

SEPTA says that by the time the 11th St Station is reopened, 27 of 28 L stations will be fully accessible. Currently, the L Line Map lists Spring Garden, 11th Street, and 34th Street as not handicapped accessible.
